Whisking through Parenthood with a Pinch of Pixie Dust and a Glass of Bubbly

A Galaxy Far Far Away

Punch it Chewie! We are going to Batu!

Galaxy’s Edge is truly one of the most detailed lands in all of Disneyland. Even though there is only one ride right now in this land there is just so much to do, so lets get started!

First lets talk about Smugglers Run. This is currently the only attraction in Galaxy’s Edge but goodness gracious it is incredible. The famous Millennium Falcon is yours to fly across the galaxy and help Hondo Ohnaka in his mission to get some coaxium for the resistance.

As you go through the cue you then get split up into flight crews. There are three jobs you could receive, two pilots, two gunners and two engineers. You are then given colored credentials and go into the Millennium Falcon to hang out until your ship is ready.

While waiting you get to sit at the chess table and explore all there is in the Millennium Falcon. Cast members will call the color of your credentials and you will be escorted to your cockpit! Pilots will steer the ship, gunners will protect the ship, and engineers will help grab the coaxium.

(Be aware parents, that you sit separately from your kiddos so make sure they are okay with sitting away from you during the ride. They will still be very close but not right next to you.)

At the end of your mission you will get your results of your flight. Which you can then record in your Play Disney App.

Which brings me to one of my favorite feature of this new land. While you are in Batu, you are able to access that part of the park on your Play Disney App. In the Play Disney App you are able to translate languages, scan cargo, and accept jobs.

As you finish tasks you will earn new titles and items. It was so incredibly fun to run around and play with this app. If you have kiddos they will definitely LOVE this.

Alright now lets talk about my favorite part, MERCH! Give me all the merch! There are a few shops with different themes across the land. But lets talk about the interactive experiences you can partake of.

First there is Savi’s Workshop where you can build your own lightsaber! We had the opportunity to be able to get in to make a one of a kind souvenir.

Let me preface that you must purchase your lightsaber before gaining entry into the workshop and the lightsabers are around $215. So make sure you are committed before rushing there. Once you are taken in, the Batuuians will explain what it takes to build this powerful weapon. I wont get into too much detail because I want you to experience this for yourself! It was simply AMAZING and gave me chills when all the builders raised their lightsabers all glowing in all their power.

Another unique experience that you can partake of is in the Droid Depot, where you can build your own droid!

You can choose between a R2 unit or a BB unit. Even though R2-D2 is one of my absolute favorite characters, I chose to build a BB unit. These special little guys cost around $99 but there are of course extras that you can add on for additional cost of course.

Once you choose which droid style you want to build you will go to conveyor belt where parts are flying by. You have instructions of which parts you need but you get to choose the color and style. After you gather all your parts, you will be taken over your building station. The locals will make sure you have put it together correctly and will then help you activate your new little buddy.

Your droid comes with a remote so you can help them move around. I do suggest before you leave the shop, turn off your droid and the remote. You do not want the batteries to die before you get a chance to play with it! I have to say that I absolutely love my droid and haven’t stopped playing with it since I got it!

Food in Batu is scrumptious! Two of my favorites are the Ronto Wrap, Nuna Turkey Jerky and the Outpost Popcorn Mix!

At Ronto Roasters, you can find the Ronto Wrap and both the Nuna Turkey Jerkies. The Ronto Wrap is a Pita wrap with Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, Peppercorn Sauce and a slaw. It was so so delish and a definitely must try! They also have two different types of jerky, sweet or spicy. My favorite was obviously the spicy for sure!

Next was the Outpost Popcorn Mix which you can find at Kat Saka’s Kettle. It is a colorful blend of sweet and spicy. I have heard the flavors are chili and blueberry but I cannot confirm or deny that. But I can can tell you it is delectable!

Alright so now you know alot of what there is to do (obviously there is alot more than what I have told you) but lets talk tips!

  • Decide on what your nonnegotiables are! You need to prioritize!
  • If you want to make a lightsaber or have a drink at the Cantina GO THERE FIRST! Spaces will fill up and you will not be able to experience these!
  • Keep in mind that your reservation will have some overlap of other reservations. Meaning if you have an 11am to 3pm slot, you wll have a group still there from the 8am to 12pm and at the end of your reservation you will have a group coming in for the 2pm to 6pm time slot.
  • My suggestion is to wait to ride Smugglers Run till after the first hour. In my experience everyone rushes to the ride which makes it a way longer wait. After the first hour everyone is doing other things and the line dies down quite a bit. We had a reservation time slot of 8am to 12pm and we rode it twice within 20 minutes because we waited until 10am.
  • Interact with the locals (cast members). They were so fun to talk with about their home (Galaxy’s Edge) and always had some fun stories to tell.
  • Walk around everywhere! Even if you are not planning on purchasing items go in all the shops and window shop. I promise it is so much fun to just look.
  • Put your phone away for a little! I know its hard to say put it away for the entire time because lets face it, that is just not going to happen. But try to fully amerce yourself in the land, because this is a once in a lifetime experience!
  • Have FUN! Remember it is still Disneyland!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! You can either ask on here or you can go to my Instagram @ashhtaylork!

May the force be with you!

Stay Magical!
