DIY Disneyland Map Coasters

Who doesn’t love an easy DIY? But lets kick it up a notch, lets add some Disney flare! You all know I am completely obsessed with Disney and Disneyland, so it should come to no surprise that I wanted to add in a little Disney into the cozy decor of my house.

So when decorating my home I knew I wanted touches of Disney throughout. I wanted it to be almost like a hidden Mickey type of situation. Like putting little Disney treasures mixed in with my rustic and relaxed living space. I did a lot of research into little ways to incorporate my favorite place into my home. That’s when I found DIY coasters and added in my Disney flare!

First I found all the supplies I needed for my project. I went to my favorite buying site, Amazon. And believe it or not they had an entire kit for DIY coasters that had everything I needed and for a fraction of the price it would be to purchase everything individually. But if you already have some of the items then maybe you would be better of just buying the supplies you are missing. The only thing that was not included in the kit is a lacquer spray to make the coasters water resistant.

Lets talk about the supplies you are going to need:

  • 4-10 white ceramic tiles
  • Mod Podge
  • Craft sponge brushes
  • Felt or felt pads with sticker backing
  • Disneyland or Disney World Map or Family Photos
  • Clear Lacquer Spray to make coasters water resistant

Here is a link for the DIY coaster kit on Amazon!

So lets make some coasters! First take whatever you will putting onto the coasters and cut them into the shape of the tiles. (I of course used Disneyland maps!) My tiles were 4×4 and I actually wanted mine to have a thin white border around the image so I cut them a little shorter on all sides.

Next take one of your sponge brushes and paint a layer of Mod Podge directly onto the glossy side of the tile. Once you have done that place your image on top of the tile. Make sure to put the image you want seen facing up!

Once you have your image placed take your sponge brush again and paint on a layer of Mod Podge directly onto the image. Make sure you are getting all the corners and edges. When the first layer is down, let the coasters sit and dry. This may take a while so be patient! Once this layer is dry, I repeated this process about 2-3 times just to make sure the picture was secure on the tile.

When you have all the layers of Mod Podge dry and ready to go then take your lacquer spray and spray one even coat and let dry. I did this 2 times and I was happy with the end product.

The final step that you’re going to do is attach the felt onto the backside of your coasters. This is of course to prevent the rough side of the tile from scratching your coffee table. In the kit I purchased they had felt stickers so it was so easy to just peel and stick the felt pads where I wanted them. Of course you can always glue felt onto the backside as well.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo! Your magical DIY coasters are done!

I hope you enjoyed my little DIY! Would you guys want me to share more DIY crafts that I do throughout the year? Let me know!

Stay Magical!

Ash
